Evolutionary genetics has two facets. The first is how genetics underlie evolutionary processes, the second is how genetic systems evolve. Our group is interested in both aspects: for example genetic differentiation and adaptation on the one hand, and the fate of duplicated genome sequences on the other hand. Besides doing research, many of us are also involved in undergraduate teaching and in discussing the role of genetics in society.

We base our research on a broad range of organisms and methods. Both animals and plants are studied in our laboratory, while some of the evolutionary problems are tackled by population genetic modelling.
